"As the face of law enforcement in America for almost fifty years, J. Edgar Hoover was feared and admired, reviled and revered. Edgar," a drama that explores the public and private life of one of the most powerful, controversial and enigmatic figures of the 20th century" (Google.com).

John Edgar Hoover: an inquiry into the life and times of John Edgar Hoover, and his relationship to the continuing partnership of crime, business, and politics
by Hank Messick J. S. Flipper Library Call Number: HV7911 .H6 M46 1972
"This is an excellent book, written in fast-paced, journalistic style by former reporter for the Louisville Courier-Journal, Hank Messick. Most known for his book on Meyer Lansky, Messick chisels away at the legend of renowned Commmie-fighter, John Edgar Hoover.
The cover reveals much. Pictured is a puppet with Hoover's face, holding a club in one hand. Underneath we see the wrist of the puppeteer, rightfully clad in a pinstriped suit with cufflinks. Messick minces no words when it comes to showing the reader who the puppeteer is.
Follow Messick as he details the beginning and ascendance to power of the (in)famous J. Edgar, the man whose monument stands as the headquarters for today's FBI. While Hoover maneuvered through presidential administrations, at times groveling, other times arm-bending, the relationship between organized crime, business, and politics strengthened. Hoover, his image professionally manicured by expert propaganda, skirted responsibility for his role the complete corruption of this nation and remains an icon of criminal justice. It is a tragedy that while honest accounts of Hoover's actions exist, they remain scarcely known.
Sourced accurately and effectively, the book lays bare Hoover's record, which may explain why it remains out of print." by Cowan Bellarmino "Cow. Bell." courtesy of Amazon.com

Official and confidential: the secret life of J. Edgar Hoover
by Anthony Summers J. S. Flipper Library Call Number: HV7911 .H6 S86 1994
"'Official And Confidential' is a great work that serves as a document about the abuses of power due to one man's private perversions. Summers writes an incredibly powerful book that explores many, many subjects. Never did I think one man could have so much control, I was proven wrong by this great work. J.Edgar Hoover was a man with mental problems that were secret perversions, he used it to his use. This book is like watching a great movie. It has all the elements of a great dramatic thriller. We explore the shadowy truths behind the assassinations of JFK, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King. Even the death of John Dillinger is questioned here. "Official & Confidential" can also serve as a study of the perversions of power and government. The myth of the conservative 50s and 60s is shattered here. There was more going on behind the curtain of power than we knew. This is a masterpiece." by Mr. Fellini "Fellini" courtesy of Amazon.com

From the shifting faultlines of Hollywood fantasies and the economic and racial tensions of Reagan's America, Fishbone rose to become one of the most original bands of the last 25 years. With a blistering combination of punk and funk they demolished the walls of genre and challenged the racial stereotypes and political order of the music industry and the nation. Telling it like it is, the iconic Laurence Fishburne narrates EVERYDAY SUNSHINE, a story about music, history, fear, courage and funking on the one.
At the heart of the film's story is lead singer Angelo Moore and bassist Norwood Fisher who show how they keep the band rolling out of pride, desperation and love for their art. To overcome money woes, family strife, and the strain of being aging Punk rockers on the road, Norwood and Angelo are challenged to re-invent themselves in the face of dysfunction and ghosts from a painful past.
Featuring interviews with Flea, Gwen Stefani, Ice-T, Perry Farrell, Branford Marsalis, George Clinton, Tim Robbins, Gogol Bordello, ?uestlove, and others, EVERYDAY SUNSHINE traces the band's history, influence, and struggle as individualistic, genre-blending artists up against an unforgiving music industry that threatens to pass them by.
This film is based on Hunter S. Thompson's book of the same title. Thompson also wrote Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream.

Today's Thought of the Day comes from co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Apple Inc., Steve Jobs

“Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
Today's thought of the day comes from inventor Thomas Edison
"When I want to discover something, I begin by reading up everything that has been done along that line in the past--- that's what all the books in the library are for. I see what has been accomplished at great labor and expense in the past. I gather the data of many thousands of experiments as a starting point and then I make thousands more. The three essentials to achieving anything worthwhile are first, hard work; second, stick-to-it-iveness; third, common sense."- Thomas Edison
